It stands on the edge, atop a 525 meter (1,722 ft) cliff in the Danrek Mountains range which straddles the Thai border. In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over the ownership, the International Court of justice (ICJ) in The Hague awarded the temple to Cambodia. And on July 7, 2008, Prear Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
